Volume 6
MARIUS PONS BRANGIER, of Lacadiere; prior to the French Revolution, sold his
estate “La Cadiere,” near Marseilles, France, and with his young wife Marie
Frances DURAND
sailed from France, for the Island of Martinique; later he came
to Louisiana. In Saint James Parish,
which then bore the more grandiloquent title of
“Paroisse St. Jacques Cote de Cabahanoce aux
Accadiens,”
he acquired at different times, from 1785 to 1789, five adjoining plantations,
these he threw into one; built a large and stately mansion and named the new
habitation
“La Maison Blanche,” where hospitality was the prevailing spirit of
both its master and mistress
